Very moody! I’m sure the building isn’t one, but the photo has the effect of the viewer being dragged against their will up to the doors of the asylum… (I definitely need more sleep!)

    Great image!

Really like the mood you’ve created with this one. And it’s so well composed. Do you know the painter Anselm Kiefer?

    Very moody – love it!
Slightly desaturated? Mono conversion over layed? What’s the trick?!

HDR’d, then stacked & blended with the regular exposed raw. Also desaturated the grass on both sides to match the desaturation that was on the outer edges of the ground. I wanted to draw the eyes to the texture of the wood and as Behrm mentioned below, the nail lines. Then have the eye work it’s way up to the building and the sky. 🙂 Thanks for your kind words, and comment, Noeline! 🙂

atmospheric!! How did you do this?

    • Robert Santafede's avatar

I always hope to be atmospheric, I’m glad this one worked out. 🙂 This was HDR (3 raws, 4 steps) then blended into the normal exposed raw file. I desaturated the grass on both sides of the walkway to match the already worn out sides, and to really make the wooden texture ‘pop’. Thanks for your comment, Sonali!

This entrance way looks very foreboding and the clouds validate that we must be frightened.

It’s funny, but it gave me goosebumps too, in a good way. Could be from a very beautifully photographed yet to come horror movie.

MMMMM. Drohend. Such obsessively straight nail tracks. You have a remarkable eye, Robert.
